Monthnotes – June 2025

Monthnotes – June 2025

June’s been a pretty full-on few weeks and as the month draws to a close, I’m pretty worn out. It’s three weeks until my summer holiday which can’t come soon enough.

There’s something very satisfying about the feeling of wrapping up work before a break that I’m really looking forward to, but it always comes with a sense of pressured acceleration in the weeks that precede a holiday.

June’s always a busy month in the Wakeman household, with two birthdays in quick succession. It’s been nice to have a full house again and go out for a family birthday lunch last weekend. I also squeezed in a trip to Devon to see my parents for a weekend this month too.

And workwise there’s been lots going on too.

My current fractional COO engagement draws to a close in three weeks time as a new permanent COO joins the business. It’s the point in a fractional role where I need to start packaging up with work I’ve done ready to be handed over, as well as helping the new permanent COO learn the business and put their own experience to work.

I’ve also started work with a new client from a different sector through my associate relationship with Start Inspiring. It’s a short facilitation engagement, but it’ll be interesting to see where that might lead later in the year.

I’m ramping up the marketing for my online course – The Fractional Executive Launchpad – working with a social media manager. The course helps people who want to transition into fractional working to learn from my playbooks and experience. It goes live in September but there are some great pre-order offers for people who sign up now (the super early-bird deal expires at midnight GMT tonight).

I’m excited to launch an experiment with my Build newsletter this week. During July, August and September I’m handing over the newsletter to a new collaborator each week, brining different voices and perspectives to the 1,400 founders who read it. It’ll be interesting to see how that lands.

Music this month…

Loved this set from Greg Wilson in Ibiza last month.

Podcasts this month…

A new addition to my podcast list this month from coach Emily Rose Dallara. Bubbling Out is proving a fascinating listen about neuroscience and somatic practice in the context of leadership.

Reading this month…

Ahead of my hols I’m re-reading Cal Newport’s Slow Productivity. A lot of the book resonated with me when it came out last year, so I’m taking another look to help with reflecting on how I want to work later in the year.

Cycling this month…

122 miles.

Running this month…

49.7 miles
