Been meaning to post on this for a while but it got kind of stuck in my drafts folder.
If you’re looking for an opportunity to network with like-minded communicators using Twitter, you could do a lot worse than check out one of the regular “chats” that take place among groups of communicators.
A few are worth highlighting in particular:
- Comms Chat – a Europe-wide general comms discussion covering “all aspects of comms including PR, marketing, reputation management, internal comms and all things digital”. Usually Monday evenings, UK time, using hashtag #commschat
- NHSsm – mainly on social media for NHS communicators. Usually 8pm Wednesday evenings, UK time, using hashtag #nhssm
- Polchat – for police communicators. Used to use #polchat on Thursday lunchtimes (1-2pm, UK time) but I think is currently inactive (check Amanda’s blog for info)
- Lgovsm – for local government officers interested in social media. On Twitter as @lgovsm. Using hashtag #lgovsm on Tuesday evenings from 8pm each week (UK time)
The active chats usually have transcripts of the conversations that have taken place if you can’t participate live.
However while these transcripts do have some interesting content, I think the greatest benefit is in participating in the conversations, learning and networking. If I had a few more hours spare I’d try to be more involved than an interested bystander.
If you know any other online conversations, do leave them in the comments below.
