A more efficient writing tool

A more efficient writing tool

This post by Lee Hopkins struck a chord with me.
I really struggle when sitting down to write, whether it’s a media release or a strategy. I often get diverted by incoming emails or following hyperlinks to sites which become gradually more distant from the topic I’m working on.
So having checked out Matthew Stibbe’s post that Lee cited, I decided to download Dark Room – a no frills editor that takes me back to the old days – green text on a black background.

I’ve been using it all day, and it’s definitely helping focus on writing, and making me think about what I’m writing.
As a Textpattern user I blog using Textile. This keeps the code for formatting and layout to a minimum when posting, and I guess the principle is the same for using Dark Room. Stripping out the complexity helps focus on the content.
I’d definitely recommend you give it a go.
