On the road next week - speaking at…

Friday, November 28th, 2008 at 9:09 pm

Hello - welcome to my website.

On my blog I write about marketing, public relations and digital communications. To keep up-to-date with my posts you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed or sign-up to receive blog posts by email.

Thanks for visiting and I hope you find my site useful.

It’s been a while since I’ve spoken at a conference but next week I’m speaking at not one, but two, conferences.

On Thursday, 4 December I’m at the Public Sector Forums event at Edgbaston Cricket Ground, Birmingham - “Public Sector Websites - Essential Issues for Managers, Developers and Others”.

I’ll be talking about “Mobile internet and local government” - an interesting area that takes me back to my days working on the mobile channel at Egg. I’ll be covering the growth of the mobile internet, what it can do for local government communications and websites, and examining some of the practical considerations for councils wanting to increase their presence on the mobile web.

Then on Friday, 5 December it’s up the M6 to Manchester Bridgewater Hall for the northern instalment of the Don’t Panic Guide to Social Media.

I’ll be exploring “Local government and social media” - looking at the extent of social media usage in local
government along with examples of those authorities that have used social media channels to reach their audiences. It’ll be an updated version of the presentation I did at the London leg of the conference back in May - looking back at what I said then, it’s amazing how things have moved on in the intervening six months.

Tickets are still available for both conferences if you’re interested.

I’m looking forward to meeting people I’ve known online for a while now: Dave Briggs will be a fellow speaker in Birmingham, while in Manchester it’ll be great to catch up with Andy and Nicky from Don’t Panic, Richard Bailey, Stephen Davies and Stuart Bruce among others.

If you’re heading to either of these conferences, leave a comment, tweet or get in touch. It’s always great to meet new people at events who read my blog.

Simon Wakeman

I've been on the web since 2001 and have been blogging about marketing and public relations since January 2006.

I'm currently Head of Marketing at Medway Council as well as a freelance marketing and PR consultant.

The content and opinions expressed on this website are not endorsed by nor reflect the views of any company or organisation I work with.

Simon’s core strengths were around being insight led, marketing and experience planning, and successful delivery. Simon led the ‘paperless credit card agreement’ strategy and agreed a solution which met the needs of all the stakeholders…the 1st solution of it’s kind at the time in the UK market and widely adopted by the industry since. Mike Beddington, Egg

When I worked with Simon I found him to be postive, forward thinking and a pleasure to work with. Mark Pearson
